About the Artist
Jasmyn Ihanimo is a young emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist based in Perth, Western Australia. She is a Yamatji and Yued Noongar woman from her mother’s side [Whitby/Narrier] and is also of Melanesian Pacific Islander descent from her father’s side.
Her Aboriginal family connections goes from the Midwest, Geraldton [Yamatji], down South to Moora (Yued), to the Goldfields, Kalgoorlie (Wongi) and also all the way up North to the Pilbara, Port Hedland (Nyiyaparli).
Jasmyn was born in Perth, WA then moved to Karratha with her family when she was a baby. For her first 16 years she grew up in the Pilbara, Karratha. Living in the Pilbara has allowed Jasmyn to travel around the region with her family, school and relatives.
These travels are where she draws inspiration from. Her connection to country can be seen strongly in her artwork as she develops and fine tunes her own individual style of art whether digitally or using traditional methods of painting.
In 2022 Jasmyn and her family relocated to Perth, enabling her to complete the last 2 years of high school. Jasmyn is now looking forward to attending University in 2024 to pursue her desired career pathway.
Being a Contemporary Aboriginal Artist gives her the opportunity to connect with her heritage and culture. This can be conveyed throughout her artwork and how she tells her stories. Jasmyn is just at the beginning of her journey with her art and loves to engage the audience with her artwork.
